BAAD! PROGRAMS
BAAD! is an intimate performance and workshop space founded in 1998 by award-winning dancer/choreographer Arthur Aviles and writer/activist Charles Rice-Gonzalez.
Every year, BAAD! welcomes thousands of attendees from New York City, specifically from the Bronx, to five annual festivals:
Get Tough! Get BAAD! (February)
A film and performance series celebrating queer power, diversity, visibility and defiance
BAAD!Ass Women (March)
A multidisciplinary showcase of empowering art by women, non-binary and gender non-conforming artists
Boogie Down Dance Series (April/May)
The Bronx’s longest-running contemporary dance series
Out Like That (June)
The Bronx's only LGBTQ+ performing arts festival
BlakTinX Performance Series (October/November)
A multidisciplinary series celebrating the convergence of works by Black and Latinx artists
Throughout the year, BAAD! also presents a select number of special events, including:
Courageous Conversations: Strategies for Living and Loving in America
A community conversation where two individuals are invited to offer a gift to the community via their art and/or practice that can offer a strategy for living powerfully to LGBTQ+ people and allies.
TransVisionaries Performance Series
A partnership with BAAD! and a Bronx restaurant where we present trans/GNC/non-binary artists.
Los Nutcrackers: A Christmas Carajo
An annual queer, Latinx holiday play written by Charles Rice-Gonzalez about a gay couple embarking on a psychedelic trip through their lives one Christmas Eve.
