BAAD! PROGRAMS

BAAD! is an intimate performance and workshop space founded in 1998 by award-winning dancer/choreographer Arthur Aviles and writer/activist Charles Rice-Gonzalez.

Every year, BAAD! welcomes thousands of attendees from New York City, specifically from the Bronx, to five annual festivals:

  • Get Tough! Get BAAD! (February)

A film and performance series celebrating queer power, diversity, visibility and defiance

  • BAAD!Ass Women (March)

A multidisciplinary showcase of empowering art by women, non-binary and gender non-conforming artists

  • Boogie Down Dance Series (April/May)

The Bronx’s longest-running contemporary dance series

  • Out Like That (June)

The Bronx's only LGBTQ+ performing arts festival

  • BlakTinX Performance Series (October/November)

A multidisciplinary series celebrating the convergence of works by Black and Latinx artists

Throughout the year, BAAD! also presents a select number of special events, including:

  • Courageous Conversations: Strategies for Living and Loving in America

A community conversation where two individuals are invited to offer a gift to the community via their art and/or practice that can offer a strategy for living powerfully to LGBTQ+ people and allies.

  • TransVisionaries Performance Series

A partnership with BAAD! and a Bronx restaurant where we present trans/GNC/non-binary artists.

  • Los Nutcrackers: A Christmas Carajo

An annual queer, Latinx holiday play written by Charles Rice-Gonzalez about a gay couple embarking on a psychedelic trip through their lives one Christmas Eve.
